There were no metal cross beams used in standard tower systems to support the cables and insulators.
The reason for this:
Without steel brackets the system is more compact and also more affordable. LAPP Insulators developed a customized insulator design for the new tower system – impressive and economical.
Clever technical finesse combined with quality products – this is what you will find on a 50 km long high voltage line in Palmiet Stikkland in South Africa. There, 400 kV cables run over an extremely narrow line originally designed for 110 kV, partially also across mountains.
Strong winds typically for this area necessitate a high mechanical resilience of the products used.
